Several difficulty modes are bundled with this build. They range from cosmetic changes to gameplay-altering overhauls. Each mode is toggled independently from the Difficulty menu or the host lobby (in multiplayer).
A curated balanced difficulty tweak. Adjusts enemy stats, item availability, and healing rates to create a harder but fair experience. Enemies hit harder and healing items are less plentiful.
Reduces the frequency of food, healing, and restorative items throughout the dungeon. Your characters will spend more of the run in low health states, making every encounter a real threat.
Enables experimental AI-driven enemy decision-making. Instead of using standard RPG Maker action patterns, enemies make smarter targeting and ability decisions based on the current battle state. Best used for a veteran playthrough who wants unpredictable encounters.
An extreme difficulty modifier stacking additional stat multipliers on top of the base game. Meant for players who have completed the game many times and want a near-impossible challenge. Combines well with 10x Enemy Health (below).
A survival-focused mode that makes death permanent by restricting or disabling options that would normally let you circumvent a Game Over. Retries, Blood Portals escape, and other safety valves are limited.
All enemy maximum HP values are multiplied by 10 at battle setup time. When combined with regular multiplayer enemy scaling, bosses can reach truly enormous HP totals. Designed purely as a challenge modifier.
When used with Multiplayer, the 10× multiplication happens after the per-player scaling is applied, making the total HP extremely high.
Every random encounter on the world map is replaced with a boss-class enemy (Grogoroth, Sylvian, Gohaf, Griffith, etc.). There are no "easy" fights in this mode — every step in the dungeon is potentially lethal. Intended only for experienced players.
Boss Rush is a standalone mode that drops you into an endless sequence of boss battles. After each kill, the next boss is spawned. A win counter tracks how many you have defeated.
Boss Rush is launched from a dedicated menu option on the title screen when the mod is enabled. It does not interfere with your normal save files.
Later rounds in Boss Rush apply stat multipliers to the bosses so they become progressively harder as your win streak increases.
All difficulty modes can be combined with each other and with the Multiplayer mod's own player-count scaling. Some combinations (e.g. 10x Health + Only Bosses + 4-player scaling) may produce effectively unkillable enemies. This is intentional — these modes are designed to be stacked at your own risk.
| Mode Stack | Approximate Difficulty |
|---|---|
| Trepidation alone | Hard — recommended for a second playthrough |
| Trepidation + Famine | Very Hard — resource scarcity becomes critical |
| XT Mode alone | Extreme — not recommended for newcomers |
| 10x Health + 4 players | Effectively infinite grinding — novelty tier |
| Only Bosses + Randomiser | Total chaos — every step is a boss fight against something unexpected |
