There is a sample mod in the repo called tutorial that is ment as a tutorial to help you get fermiliar with the repo. Take a look at the open issues on the repo and choose one that looks easy to address. Fixing issues is a good way to get accustomed to the codebase. Other than that this api is a good reference.
